Colchones Aznar is a 100% family-owned business. It directly employs 65 people and just as many indirectly. Unlike large retailers, its core value is customer service. In addition to supplying individual customers, Colchones Aznar has a hospitality department that provides beds, pillows, and other products to hotel chains. For the past 25 years, the company has been managed by Manuel Monreal, son of José Miguel Monreal and nephew of Carlos Monreal, who was recently appointed CEO.
History of Aznar Mattresses
History of Aznar Mattresses: Sleep products have undergone a major transformation since the 1970s. At that time, the only mattresses available were made of wool. Their production involved several basic steps. The first was to wash, condition, remove the wool fibers, and beat them with sticks—a process repeated annually. Finally, the fabric was sewn into which the wool was inserted. These mattresses were cleaned in the courtyards of houses, just as they were manufactured. This work was carried out by mattress makers, a profession that disappeared in the 1970s when a law prohibited cleaning mattresses in courtyards, primarily due to the introduction of spring mattresses. These were more modern and cleaner, leading to the demise of wool mattresses. Initially, any store could sell this product.
But in 1974, Colchones Aznar opened its first store and became one of Spain's leading businesses specializing in sleep products. This first shop, just fifty square meters in size, was located on San Juan de la Cruz Street in Zaragoza and was founded by José Miguel Monreal Aznar . The company soon expanded throughout the Aragonese capital. With the opening of a second store in 1976, Colchones Aznar maintained its leadership in the sleep industry by offering the best selection of mattresses and expert advice, a commitment that continues to this day. Between 1978 and 1979, Carlos Monreal Aznar , the founder's brother, joined the family business, supporting the company's expansion. As a result, Colchones Aznar opened a new branch on Hernán Cortés Street in Zaragoza: its flagship store. At the end of the 1990s, with the opening of the main shopping centers in the city of Zaragoza (Augusta and Gran Casa), the number of premises increased.
Due to the large number of branches already established, it became necessary to create a central headquarters to supply the stores with all mattresses, affordable bed frames, divan beds, pillows, and other sleep accessories. This headquarters was established at the end of that decade on the Valencia highway, kilometer 7.8, near the town of Cuarte de Huerva in the province of Zaragoza. In 2000, the company expanded its reach with five stores located outside the city of Zaragoza: in Huesca, Jaca, Barbastro, Alcañiz, Teruel, and Pamplona. The website www.colchonesaznar.com has enabled the Aragonese company to offer its advice and services throughout Spain and abroad, primarily in France and Portugal.
